Omaha COVID-19 Antigen Testing
TotalWellness is utilizing QUIDEL products, including the Sofia 2 SARS Antigen FIA and QuickVue SARS Antigen test for our COVID-19 testing services. These are rapid point-of-care tests for the detection of COVID-19. These diagnostic tests quickly detect fragments of proteins found on or within the virus by testing samples collected from the nasal cavity using swabs. The same approach is used in rapid tests for flu, strep throat and other infections that are run at the doctor’s office. Both tests have received emergency use authorization (EUA) from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the COVID-19 diagnosis. Antigen tests are very specific for the virus, but are not as sensitive as molecular PCR tests. The Sofia 2 SARS Antigen FIA test has 96.7% sensitivity and 100% specificity. The QuickVue SARS Antigen Test has 96.6% sensitivity and 99.3% specificity. The antigen test provided will depend on supply availability. The Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulate laboratory testing. TotalWellness operates with a CLIA Certificate of Waiver.
Each test takes approximately five minutes. The sample is collected with a nasal swab, which is inserted one inch into the nose. Results are sent via text and email within 30-60 minutes.
