How You Respond to Stress
Start this session with a 15-minute video.
This video introduces the concept of stress styles and explains why awareness is such an important first step. As you watch, think about how you typically respond when stress shows up at work or in daily life. There is no right or wrong reaction. The goal is simply to notice patterns so you can support yourself better moving forward.
After you watch the video, you’ll take a short self-assessment.
What is a Stress Style?
Stress is not just something that happens to you. It is something your body and brain respond to automatically.
A stress style describes the pattern your nervous system tends to follow when you feel pressure, uncertainty, or overload. Some people respond by thinking through every detail. Others take action immediately. Some push emotions aside to keep moving, while others feel everything all at once or momentarily shut down. These reactions often happen before you even realize you are stressed.
Your stress style is not a personality flaw and it is not something you need to “fix.” It developed over time as a way to protect you and help you cope with challenging situations. In many cases, your stress style also comes with real strengths, like focus, empathy, problem-solving, or persistence.
The challenge is that when stress lasts too long or shows up too often, these same patterns can start to work against you. Understanding your stress style helps you recognize early stress signals, respond more intentionally, and choose support strategies that actually work for you instead of relying on one-size-fits-all advice.
