Forbes Media Health Screening Program and Flu Shots

Health Screening

Forbes is partnering with Total Wellness again in 2019 to provide your onsite health screening, which will test your cholesterol and glucose numbers.  The individual results of your screening are completely confidential to you. The onsite health screening will occur on October 16th, 2019 from 9am to 1pm. Please REGISTER HERE.

SCREENING INFORMATION

What Does the Screening Consist of?

The onsite health screening is a finger prick that will be administered by a trained Total Wellness staff member. You will also have your blood pressure, height, weight, waist, and body mass index measurements taken. Your results will be available before you leave the screening. A staff member will briefly review your results with you. The appointment will take approximately 20 minutes.

Forbes Health Savings Account Funding: 2020 Preventive Care Requirement

The Company contributes to each eligible employee’s Health Savings Account on a quarterly basis.  To receive the final quarterly contribution of $625 on October 15th, 2020, you must complete the preventive care requirement by choosing one of the following options:

  1. Complete the on-site biometric screening offered by Forbes in the Jersey City office on October 16th, 2019
  2. Participate in an at-home biometric screening offered by Forbes in the first quarter of 2020 (more information to come in 2020)
  3. Complete your annual preventive care visit between October 1st, 2019 and September 30th, 2020. (proof of visit is required)

Why is preventive care important?

Your health is important!  There is a lot you can do to improve your health and prevent future health problems by being proactive in your own wellness today.  One way to do this is “knowing your numbers” either by going for your annual preventive care visit or by participating in a biometric screening. By knowing your health numbers, you may be able to identify any risk factors you may not currently be aware of.

Flu Vaccinations

Forbes has also elected to offer flu shots to Forbes employees this year. Flu shots will be offered on site on October 17th, 2019 from 11am to 2pm. Please REGISTER HERE.

If you are unable to attend the onsite flu shot event, you also can get you flu shot. You may utilize a flu shot voucher at your local pharmacy. This option is also free to you. CLICK HERE to obtain your voucher and instructions on how to use this voucher.

**You only need to print the voucher if you are unable to attend the onsite event.**

Flu Vaccine Information

What Happens at the Flu Shot Appointment?

The onsite flu shots will be administered by a Total Wellness nurse. You will fill out a brief flu shot consent form and then be asked to roll up your sleeve. The shot is administered in the upper deltoid. Flu mist is not offered at this event. The appointment will take approximately 10 minutes.

Why Should I Get Vaccinated Against the Flu?

The flu shot is a simple and effective way of lowering your chances of getting the flu. Flu generally spreads when an infected person coughs or sneezes, sending infectious droplets of moisture into the air for others to breathe. A person can also catch the flu by touching a surface where those droplets have fallen. The flu shot is safe and effective for most individuals and has scientifically proven to lower your likelihood of catching the flu.

Who should get a flu shot?

According to the CDC, all people 6 months of age and older should get the flu vaccine, including healthy people and people with chronic medical conditions. There are some people who should not get a flu vaccine without first consulting a physician. These include:

  • People who have a severe allergy to chicken eggs.
  • People who have had a severe reaction to an influenza vaccination.
  • People who have a moderate-to-severe illness with a fever (they should wait until they recover to get vaccinated.)
  • People with a history of Guillain–Barré Syndrome (a severe paralytic illness, also called GBS) that occurred after receiving influenza vaccine and who are not at risk for severe illness from influenza should generally not receive vaccine.
